This is a limited edition giclee print from the original pastel drawing of an Arabian Caracal.
The reference photograph I used to create this I took at Port Lympne. I was lucky enough to catch it leaping up in the air was incredible how agile!
The Arabian caracal is a lot lighter in colour in comparison to the African Caracal. Caracals are stunning with their little tufts on tops of their ears. They are typically nocturnal and is highly secretive and difficult to observe. Caracals are very territorial and live daily alone or in pairs. They are amazing leapers like the Serval. They can leap higher than 3 meters (9.8ft) and catch birds in mid-air! The caracal is a carnivore that typically preys upon small mammals, birds and rodents. They stalks prey until it is within 5 m (16ft) of it after which it runs it down and get the prey, killing it by a bite to the throat or to the back of the neck suffocating it. I have been lucky enough to have seen quite a few felines now in the wild including jungle cats, wild cats and civets but no caracals as yet, I’m hoping one day I get the privilege.
